Can points be earned from the group or just the breed?
This topic came up this weekend and there were yes's on both sides. I check the AKC website and I couldn't find any mention of groups and all examples given were from the breed.

I have a question in relation to getting your GCH points.
You need 25 points for your girl
You need three majors within those points for your girl
You need to defeat at least three other Ch
My question is this: Do those three Ch have to be girls?
If there are Ch boys in the ring that did not get GCH points do they count as one of the CH defeated for your girl?

A GCH is only earned from the breed judging. There are no points from any Group win or placement. The champions you must defeat can be of either sex.

If you get a Group One you get the Grand Champion points and if any of the breeds made a Major and you get the Group One you just picked up a Major just like when you are going for Regular points.

Um you're "not correct", according to AKC's Rules Applying to Dog Shows: "Grand Championship Points will not be awarded for competition beyond Best of Breed or Best of Variety of Breed competition."

Might want to do a quick search before spreading false information.

Also, it does matter for Select as to how many of your own sex you defeat.

You are ABSOLUTELY mistaken. There are NO grand champion points awarded after the breed judging. You could have ten Best In Shows and fifty Group firsts and zero grand champion points.
An apology for your "correction" would be nice.

And as someone else said...an apology would be nice when you post false information to "correct" someone who has posted accurate info.

It only matters in regard to points figured for the "Select" designation. It does not matter what the sexes are in figuring Grand Champion points when the Best of Breed is awarded.

There is a clear explanation on the AKC site for those who do not understand, and especially for those who want to give out wrong information to "correct" those who actually know what they are talking about. Before pretending to be an "expert" in things you do not understand, why don't you educate yourself.

So here we are ... so many of us still confused as to how the points are calculated and awarded for the GCH. If it's this difficult to figure out, then we ought to rally to the AKC to make it a bit more clear in their explaination. Ridiculous....

Read the AKC stats then come back with questions. Jmo........
