I had a friend call and say he had a litter of pups, Chocolate female bred to a Chocolate male. Half of the pups are chocolate, half black. I did not think this was possible and thought he should have the pups DNA tested. What are your thoughts on this?

There is a recessive black gene that has been recently been in the testing... It is possible that both carried that recessive gene so that is an alternative if they DNA test and the paternal side is correct for all the puppies:)
