Definition of Novice Class

I have been hunting around the AKC site with no luck trying to find out the "rules" for a dog being in Novice class. I thought it was that the dog can not had won more than 2 First place ribbons, but I don't see it anywhere.

Any one know the rule? I have a youngster who has 2 first place ribbons from puppy and junior classes and I would like to enter her in Novice. Thanks!

Re: Definition of Novice Class

Chapter 3, Section 6 - "Rules Applying to Dog Shows" pamphlet on AKC site.

Re: Definition of Novice Class

Many thanks MB :)

Re: Definition of Novice Class

I thought it might be nice to include what it says for those of us who would like to know as well...

SECTION 6. The Novice Class shall be for dogs six
months of age and over, which have not, prior to the
date of closing of entries, won three first prizes in the
Novice Class, a first prize in Amateur-Owner Handler,
Bred-by-Exhibitor, American-bred, or Open Classes, nor
one or more points toward their championships.

So basically, puppy and junior classes don't count. And one Blue ribbon in normal adult classes or 3 in Novice.

Re: Definition of Novice Class

Thanks for including the definition! :)

Re: Definition of Novice Class

Thanks for the added definition - I couldn't cut/paste from my iPad. BUT I would encourage everyone from newbies to experienced breeders/show people to actually READ the whole pamphlet that AKC puts out regarding the rules that you might have questions about. Better to go by the actual rule book than what you might be told by others.
