ACL surgery prices near you?

have a girl that ruptured her ACL, but surgery in FL is $4000+!
it is outrageous that they feel Ok to charge this much.

I would be willing to travel a state or two away for a good surgeon with a decent price. Do you know of anyone?

Re: ACL surgery prices near you?

I am in Ga and was just quoted about $3500. This is for the TTA technique. Think much depends on what type of surgery the dog needs. The above quote includes pre-op bloodwork, more xrays and consult prior to surgery.

Cost in NJ for TTA was $4000+ for my dog. Price included preoperative bloodwork, surgery, followup xrays, & medicine after surgical procedure. Good luck to you.

Re: ACL surgery prices near you?

Triangle area of NC $2400.00 for TPLO surgery performed by an orthopedic specialist.

Re: ACL surgery prices near you?

My bitch had TPLO a few years ago at U of Missouri - it was about $1800. A friend's bitch had the tight-rope procedure (TTA) done by the same surgeon recently and I believe it cost about the same. I would definitely recommend checking into vet schools as the private clinics locally were quoting in the $3500 range!

Re: ACL surgery prices near you?

OP---Please inquire about the different procedures available. Tight-rope is not the same as TTA as mentioned in the above post. TTA and Tight-Rope are very different procedures. The most commonly used procedures are TPLO, TTA, Extracapsular, and Tight-rope. Best of luck.

Re: ACL surgery prices near you?

TPLO, @ Cornell, October 2012. $3800, included first assessment, sedation, rads, etc, plus surgery the next day followed by 4 or 5 days hospitalization and beginning of passive range of motion exercises, before I could return to pick her up.

Re: ACL surgery prices near you?

I just did a TPLO for $300 at UGA. Results are excellent.

Tight Rope is not recommended for bigger dogs. The surgeon will decide what is best, TTA or TPLO, once the x-rays are done. It all depends on the angle of the tibial plateau. One is not better over the other one.

Correction!!!!: it was $3000. Did not include the pre and post appointments with x-rays. Add $400 more for that.

Re: ACL surgery prices near you?

funny that the missing zero can really put a damper on things.

Re: ACL surgery prices near you?

Just had our mixed breed knee ACL repaired-$1800 which included followup care including laser treatment. He stayed over one night. Murrells Inlet Veterinary in Murrells Inlet, SC south of Myrtle Beach. Great vets.

I would be concerned about how you would get the stitches out and the followup visits completed if you are out of town.......

Re: ACL surgery prices near you?

My Vet (Dave Leahy DVM) does an average of 3 TTAs a week.....his price is between $2,000 and $2,500. His website is www.caninekneesurgery.com it explains the difference between ACL and CCL injuries and the proper treatment....it is very informative.

the price you quoted is $2100 less than the average. so even if the OP took two trips and stayed two days it would still be cheaper. And any vet can remove stitches.

Re: ACL surgery prices near you?

I realize this thread is a month old and the OP has probably found a surgeon by now, but I wondered where the heck in FL you are?? My 11-month-old lab just had TTA surgery on her left knee 3 weeks ago and I live in FL. Her surgery was done by an excellent and highly recommended ortho surgeon and it was $2,600.

Re: ACL surgery prices near you?

I wanted to update you on my option with my girl.
she happen to be bred the week before the injury so we were
trying to get our ducks in a row if she was not pregnant and if she was.
Well the pregnancy took so surgery was not an option for her.
she had a extreme tear of the left CCL, I worked with a vet that is not a fan of surgery and she turned me on to a company http://www.aceorthosolutions.com/

the vet has used this product on many dogs with great success. So we cast the leg and waited for the brace to arrive. Once I got the neoprene sleeve cut to fit perfect it was a dream to put on and off, and she really did not seem to mind the brace on at all. It was amazing how much relief it gave her and allowed structured movement while allowing the leg to heal itself.

her litter is now 4 weeks old and she has been wearing the brace since beginning of February and she is doing wonderfully. I jsut started letting her move around the house with out it but I put in on whenever we go outside and the chance of her running is higher. with it on she moves and scoots with the other dogs just fine. The brace stay put with out extra straps due to the neoprene sleeve. Cost was $450 well worth it and I am glad not to have to put her through surgery after all.

I'm still thinking it would have been best to put the $450 towards the surgery she will still need....

Good luck, though. I have never seen these work and all the dogs who've used it have ended up needing surgery anyway.

If it stabilizes the joint it will work. This looks like a good one, custom made to the individual dog. The problem with some of these is the joint is too sloppy because of a poor fit. Stabilize the joint and scar tissue will keep it that way. That's how traditional surgery works, the cord used to stabilize the joint will fail early on, it's not meant to hold the joint together permanently, only until scar tissue forms. If the OP keeps this on her dog for a long enough time she won't need surgery. Good luck to the OP and thanks for posting this, it looks like one of the better supports out there.
