Due to inclement weather, it is with deep regret that we inform you the Shawnee Mission Labrador Retriever Club has made the decision to cancel our Specialties on March 23rd & 24th. Please know that this decision has been met with great trepidation.
The club’s main priority is the safety of our exhibitors, judges and dogs. After monitoring the current severe winter weather system, we have regrettably decided to take this course of action. Weather advisories have been issued for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 22nd-24th. A combination of freezing temperatures, snow, rain and freezing rain are expected beginning early Friday through Sunday along with wind chills in the teens. Snow accumulations of anywhere from 1-8 inches are forecast for the area. Local meteorologists have conflicting reports on the snow amounts for Saturday into Sunday, but they do expect a widespread area to be affected. If we receive significant snow totals the county park will be closed due to inclement weather conditions, of which we have no control. We have made numerous calls to find adequate indoor facilities, but at this point have exhausted all resources.

Actually this entire area is under a Winter Storm Watch
* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS... THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR TOTAL SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS BETWEEN 6 TO 10 INCHES... WITH AMOUNTS APPROACHING A FOOT OF SNOW IN SOME LOCATIONS.
* IMPACTS... SNOW WILL ACCUMULATE ON ROADS BEGINNING SATURDAY NIGHT CAUSING ROADS TO BECOME SNOW PACKED AND SLICK. SNOWFALL MAY ALSO REDUCE VISIBILITY AT TIMES PRODUCING HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS.
Tonight, early in the night will feature snow flurries and freezing drizzle. We will see a glaze of ice develop. Another batch of light to moderate snow will move in late producing another dusting of two inches of snow. Watch for slick travel late tonight into Saturday morning. Lows in the 20s.
Weekend system is still very much on track to produce a heavier accumulating snow, approximately 4-9 inches. Saturday starts with a rain, sleet, snow mix and will transition to mainly all snow in the afternoon and into the evening. Travel in the morning to early afternoon will feature wet roads but by early evening and into Saturday night, roads will become slushy and snow covered as moderate to heavy snow bands wrap in. Sunday morning will feature hazardous travel conditions.
I understand that this is probably under the "Act Of God" rule, but how does that translate? Is there no return of any entries mainly speaking of sweeps entries that were to be given back anyway (excluding the portion the club keeps)?
