blood in mammary gland in old girl...

one of my old girls who is very broody who was spayed at 8, if that has anything to do with it, has bloody fluid in one of her mammary glands. (she will be 10 this month) I can express it if i squeeze it, it comes out like a stream of milk, but it is watery but contains frank blood, (bloody, watery fluid) if I leave it it fills up. not sure if it is an issue or not. two of my vets have seen it, and one looked at the fluid under the scope, but didn't see anything concerning. any thoughts about this?

Re: blood in mammary gland in old girl...

I have seen this twice. For one of my girls, it was mastitis. Treated with compresses and antibiotics. The other girl it was mammary cancer. Interestingly, the girl who had the mammary cancer had a teat that was inverted and had mastitis in that teat for both litters. We removed the affected teat and the one on each side. She recovered nicely from the mammary surgery however cancer had spread to her lungs and we put her down 9wks after her surgery.

My girl had this. She died at almost 13 from something un-related.
