Food and stool consistency

Looking for a food that gives great stool consistency. I have a senior citizen that poops in the house and cleaning up mushy stools is no fun!

Re: Food and stool consistency

It's common for elderly humans to have food go too fast through the aged digestive system. I'd use something to slow it down rather than switch food. I'd give pumpkin and white rice with the food to slow it down.

No food may fix the problem by itself for a senior since the problem isn't the food, it's the senior digestive system.

Re: Food and stool consistency

Try a spoonful of Metamucil on each meal. It works for my girl.

Re: Food and stool consistency

I agree with the other posts. The Metamucil can help at about 1/4 tspn daily.

You can also try plain canned pumpkin. Been a long time since I used it but about 1/4 cup per meal

The rice is a good suggestion too but try to by starchy Japanese rice and over cook it so it is real starchy.

You could also try baby rice cereal powder in food with water added. This helps prevent loose stools in pups when first starting on grewl.

Prayers you can get a solid stool and for your senior going thru this.

Also consider the percentage of fat in the food you are feeding. It may help to stay with the same brand of food and close formula with lower fat.

I give a heaping tsp with each meal. I don't think less would do much.
