One of my bitches delivered a dead pup outside, her temp was 99.6 this am, no drainage, no signs of nesting. She had a C-section scheduled for tomorrow. No other pups for an hour - we had seen 4 on ultrasound. Brought her into my vet for C-section, all the other pups were dead.

Any ideas why? It was her first litter. We had dates correct with progesterone and transcervical breedings. How do we prevent this in the future?

Bumping this up. I would love to see some discussion on this. Just this last week, two breeder friends lost a whole lot of puppies in litters. The original poster here fared even worse.

Could be so many different factors. Exposure to something during pregnancy (kennel cough), some type of bacterial infection. Pups born dead could have had early placenta detachment.
