Clear by parentage

How many generations is it acceptable to go with "clear by parentage" for? Should periodic testing be done every so many generations? Has there been any scientific research on this? If not, what are you all doing?

Thank you.

Re: Clear by parentage

The OFA only recognizes one generation as being clear by parentage. This is because of the possibility of a gene mutation. I myself consider 2 generations clear by parentage for PRA, EIC, and HNPK. after that I test offspring.

Re: Clear by parentage

I think as long as you have certificates of clearance from Optigen or the other labs now doing PRA tests, there is no need for more testing. The mutation thing is meaningless. The current test would not detect a new mutation. The labs maintain their tests are 100% accurate. It would be nice of you to give the labs your money, but it should not be necessary.
