Pilgrims of the Church is an association of the congregation of the Catholic Church of nationwide, Spain. It was born remembering the pilgrimage ideal of Manuel Aparici (Madrid, December 11th; 1902- † Madrid, August 28th, 1964), who tries to study un depth, to live and to spread. «Captain of Pilgrim», National President of the Young People of Catholic Action and, once ordered priest, National Ecclesiastical Adviser of such, is one of the most important figures of the Spanish Church in century XX, humble convert, tireless apostle and apostle with vocation of crucified, that himself asked the Lord and This granted to him; he, with his tenacity, made revive, and how, the Way of Santiago; he was the creator and the soul of magna youthful world-wide peregrination to Santiago de Compostela August 28th, 1948; he was the creator in 1940 of the Short Courses of Advanced, Heads and Guides of Pilgrims to give deep base spiritual to the young people advanced way of Santiago, and antecedent next of the Short Courses in Christianity that gather among other many elements the pilgrim spirit of Manuel Aparici, and reference always obliged of such; he is -in opinion of Jose Diaz Rincón- the pioneer of the Short Courses in Christianity (yes, the pioneer of the Short Courses in Christianity); these were born of the Short Courses created by Manuel Aparici; he is a great apostle of Hispano-America; he is … Eduardo Bonnín thought about him like leader at national level (Spain). With his word and example, like apostle lay and priest, taught to us to make of our life a peregrination: «To walk by Christ to the Father, to impulses of the Holy Spirit, with the aid of Maria and taking with himself to the brothers».
Twenty years after to be formulated this definition, Council Vatican II, in all his documents, proclaims the pilgrim character of the church and the spirituality that of her is derived, and thus it proclaims the liturgy.
His first components -old Young People of Catholic Action already in its first document- «OPEN LETTER. BY AN EXEMPLARY CRISTIANDAD»-, widely spread, they showed his will to renew the commitment, of sanctity and apostolate, that had taken to them to Santiago in youthful the world-wide peregrination of August of 1948.
Cardinal Don Angel Suquía Goicoechea, being Archbishop of Madrid (Spain), recognized it like association private of congregation, with legal personality and subsequent civil recognition. Other Prelates also have approved the association in their respective dioceses.
Pilgrims of the Church promoted the Cause of Canonization of Manuel Aparici, that later assumed the Archdiocese of Madrid (Spain). Both are promoter groups of the same one, which is in Roman phase with its supposed miracle. The mortal rest of the Servant of God rest in the Chapel of the Association.
The years have spent. And in those that knew to him, treated, or received the influence of his apostolate, is consolidated his fame of sanctity, to which the Cardinal Don Ángel Herrera Oria described as «Colossus of Christ, of His Church and the Pope».
