I met Ben Chapman several years ago at a Monster Con convention in Cherry Hill NJ . He was there with his co Star Julie Adams . What a thrill it was to meet the Gillman in person . I had a photo taken with Ben that someone just sent to me . It was a pleasure and honor to meet Ben Chapman that day . I could clearly see he loved his fans and we loved him . Rest In Peace Ben Chapman !

This was always my favorite of the old Universal monster films, its always reminded me of Jaws, my favorite film. I still find it amazing that, even as a small child, a movie made in the 50s held my attention.

I loved this movie. In the 70\'s, my formative years, a local station was playing all the greats. Frankenstein, Dracula, etc... but when I saw The Gill Man, I was truly creeped out. And, I fell hard for Julie Adams. But, because the Gill Man did too, I knew he couldn\'t be all bad. About 15 years ago a local museum played a print of the film and I got to see it for the first time in a theater setting not just the small screen. It was even creepier than I remembered. Ben Chapman, you captured something classic here, and you are dearly appreciated for the sleepless nights.

Ben and I had a short but friendly how would you say pen pal email ping pong between us before he passed away on the 21st February 2008. We both loved the ocean and I being a boardrider for over 43 years we had a few fun stories about surf in Australia and Hawaii. I was just a fan but knowing Ben he always had time for the film and his fans. Here is an extract which I am sure everyone has read and knows about. RIP BEN!!

I'm a fan of the Creature myself, but not as big a fan as my mother. I actually was looking to order a T-Shirt for my mother who is even a bigger fan. In fact, she's not just a creature fan - she's more of a Ben Chapman fan. She said she had a big crush on him when the movies came out and she just loved hte way he moved under water. So I think I've heard her speak as much or more about Mr. Chapman as she does the Creature. She's a big collector of Creature paraphernalia as well. RIP Mr. Chapman, I wish you were still around to make us smile!

I met Ben at the waikiki theater in the late 1980's. He was standing in front of the theater and I overheard someone say who he was, so I went over and said Hi. Should have got a picture but nice meeting him all the same. Great movie.

I'm so upset that the remake did not come out last year. I was also saddened and surprised to read that the remake of the wolfman didn't bring in what you all wanted. I loved it and have watched it like 15 times already and will continue to watch it at least once a year. I was and still am a big fan of the gillman and I have his poster up at work currently and it's so surprising the interest from the younger generation after i let them watch my collection of the gillman. Best of luck! Your fan forever and ever. Upon my return from my deployment next year I'll be getting the full size statue of him I found from Horror Dome for 3,400.00.
