I spent about two weeks in The Gambia to meet my fiancé’s family, and during our stay we chose Ousman The Ferrymen as our guide for three days of excursions. It was one of the best decisions we made during the trip.
We did three different tours with him:
• a full-day excursion to James Island,
• another full-day tour to Reptile Farm, Paradise Beach and Tanji,
• and a half-day visit to Bijilo Forest Park and the local palm wine plantations.
Ousman is an extremely reliable, punctual and precise person. He studied history and speaks very good English, and this really shows: he explained everything in great detail, sharing the history, culture and curiosities of every place we visited. His passion and knowledge made each excursion truly interesting and meaningful.
With Ousman it’s also possible to organize longer trips, including overnight stays (such as safaris), but due to limited time we chose only day trips. Communication with him was always easy and quick, and his prices are definitely more convenient than many others, since the cost is per group per day. His jeep can comfortably fit up to 8 people, which makes it a great option for couples, families or groups of friends.
We can strongly recommend Ousman to anyone who wants to truly discover The Gambia with a professional, knowledgeable and trustworthy guide. We would choose him again without any doubt!

My friend and I came to visit the Gambia and wanted to learn about the country. We did the Roots tour with Ousman. It was brilliant. He made sure we were well looked after and had so much to tell us. We went to sites not on the tourist trail, and had independent local guides show us around. Ousman was relaxed with timings and had a wealth of information. We learnt about the history of the Gambia, particularly the dark history of the European slave trade. It was as heartbreaking as it was fascinating and I recommend anyone visiting the Gambia to do the Roots tour with Ousman

Ousman The Ferry Man jest lokalnym przewodnikiem turystycznym z własnym transportem ( Land Rover) który organizuje prywatne wycieczki po Gambii. Poznalismy Ousmana na plaży przy hotelu Kombo Beach w Kotu, gdzie ma on swój mały kiosk z którego operuje. Ma on wszystkie certyfikaty do prowadzenia dzialalnosci turystycznej ( zostały nam okazane). Ousman jest bardzo kulturalnym i miłym człowiekiem ze spora wiedza o kulturze i historii Gambii. Wycieczki z nim były bardzo przyjemne, czuliśmy się na nich komfortowo i byliśmy dobrze zaopiekowani. Ousman The Ferry Man is a local tour guide with his own transport (Land Rover) who organizes private tours around Gambia. We met Ousman on the beach at the Kombo Beach Hotel in Kotu, where he has his own small kiosk from which he operates. He has all the certificates to run a tourist business (they were shown to us). Ousman is a very cultured and nice man with a lot of knowledge about the culture and history of Gambia. The tours with him were very pleasant, we felt comfortable on them and we were well looked after. I recommend Ousman to everyone who wants to see a piece of the real Gambia. Justyna.

We went to Gambia in November 2024. I came into contact with Oesman through someone else. He immediately responded to my message via FB and then WhatsApp. He picked us up at the airport at night and so began our fantastic journey through Gambia with Ousman. He did what we wanted. He had a nice book with all the excursions and prices so that you knew where you stood. He is honest, reliable and knows how to find the most beautiful places. Definitely recommended and I thought Gambia once is enough but I will definitely go back again!

My daughter and I went on the Roots tour with Ousman. We found him to be very knowledgeable and a very attentive guide who we had total confidence in throughout the day. He is also a really nice, genuine man. He became a friend over our holiday. He is a family man trying to do the best for his family whilst promoting his country to tourists, allowing them to see and understand the real Gambia behind the big hotel facades.
It is hard to know who to trust when you are approached by people on the beach, but Ousman (The Ferryman) Ceesay is one of the good ones! We learned so much from him and recommend his tour company.
